Siete fotógrafos convocados por Fotomeraki salimos a documentar la visita del papa Francisco a Colombia. Para mí fue una experiencia surreal: las masas exaltadas esperando horas en las calles, la lluvia inclemente haciéndose lugar sin espantar a una sola persona, los gritos y lágrimas de emoción llegando a su pico más alto durante el medio segundo en el que se acercaba el papa móvil, los vendedores ambulantes rebuscándose toda clase de objetos para comercializar, como el agua según ellos "embotellada en el vaticano", entre otras experiencias. Muchos peleando para estar un centímetro más cerca del papa y pasando por encima de los otros, golpeando, empujando. Vi a señoras refunfuñar porque alguien deseaba pasar por "su territorio" delimitado con maletas y sacos, vi a los residentes de un edificio agredir físicamente a un señor que deseaba encontrar un lugar con mejor vista en las escaleras del inmueble, vi a una señora con un golpe en la nariz, quizás perdida, al parecer nadie le preguntó cómo estaba.

Seven photographers invited by Fotomeraki went out to document Pope Francis’ visit to Colombia. For me, it was a surreal experience: the exalted crowds waiting for hours in the streets, the relentless rain making its way through without discouraging a single person, the screams and tears of emotion reaching their peak in the half-second when the popemobile approached, the street vendors finding all sorts of objects to sell, like water supposedly “bottled in the Vatican,” among other scenes. Many fought to be just a centimeter closer to the pope, trampling over others, hitting, pushing. I saw women grumble because someone wanted to cross through “their territory” marked with suitcases and bags, I saw residents of a building physically assault a man who was trying to find a better view on the staircase, I saw a woman with a blow to her nose, perhaps lost, and apparently no one asked if she was okay.
