Casa (2013) es una instalación fotográfica realizada en una casa que nunca llegó a serlo, ubicada en los alrededores de Cota, Cundinamarca, Colombia. Su dueño murió durante la construcción, a causa de un incendio que acabó con lo que iba a ser su futura vivienda y con su vida. Desde entonces, la estructura permanece a medio terminar —una ruina prematura.

El día que conocí esta casa-no-casa y su historia tomé dos fotografías y me fui. Luego sentí que esas imágenes no eran suficientes para dar cuenta de la historia real de la construcción, así que decidí hacer esta instalación: quise poner a vivir a las fotografías en la casa, permitir que la casa por fin fuera techo y contención de algo, y que las fotos pudieran adquirir cierta esencia de lo que retrataban.

Imprimí varias copias de las dos imágenes en papel fotográfico resistente, suficientes para cubrir los siete metros de ancho de la casa, y colgué algunas también en el altillo que nunca fue. Las fotografías permanecieron viviendo en la casa durante más de tres meses, expuestas a la lluvia, el sol, los cambios de clima, y así quedaron después de su estadía:

Casa (2013) is a photographic installation created in a house that never came to be, located on the outskirts of Cota, Cundinamarca, Colombia. Its owner died during construction, in a fire that destroyed what was meant to be his future home—and his life. Since then, the structure has remained half-finished—a premature ruin.

The day I encountered this house-not-house and its story, I took two photographs and left. Later, I felt those images were not enough to convey the real story of the construction, so I decided to create this installation: I wanted to let the photographs live in the house, to allow the house to finally become a roof and shelter for something, and for the photos to acquire a certain essence of what they depicted.

I printed several copies of the two images on durable photographic paper, enough to cover the seven-meter width of the house, and hung some of them in the attic that never was. The photographs remained living in the house for over three months, exposed to rain, sun, and shifting weather —and this is how they looked after their stay.
